Club Integra Treasure Island Meet 4/13/13

Here is our coverage of the Treasure Island Integra meet thrown by our friends at http://www.clubintegra.com/ this past Saturday.

My friends and I left Fairfield kind of late for the meet. As a result, when we got to the spot, some people were already leaving. It was still a great turnout, and we met some cool people. Technical Post: Installing BWR Cam Seal

Today I will be installing some new products we started carrying in the store. I will be starting with the Black Works Racing billet cam seal. (Starting at $15+Tax in-store)

I recently discovered a leak on the shop demo vehicle coming from the VTEC Solenoid/Cam Seal Area. A leak from this area is fairly common on b-series engines. The engine I am working on today is a B18C1.

Tools needed:
10MM Socket
12MM Deep Socket
Ratchet
Torque Wrench
RTV (Gasket Maker) / HondaBond

First, loosen the nuts holding down the spark plug wire cover.

After removing the wire cover and wires, remove all of the valve cover bolts. Torque Spec: 7.2 ft-lbs. The torque order is shown in the picture. Don't forget to remove the breather hose on top.

After removing your valve cover, you should have something like this.

Bolts 1-10 are 12mm. You will need a deep socket to get the middle ones that hold the valve cover. Torque Spec: 20ft-lbs.
Bolts 11-14 are 10mm. Torque Spec: 7.2 ft-lbs.
When re-assembling, please torque down the bolts in this order.

Remove the cam cover, and it should look something like this.

You will need to give the cam holder a little love tap on this area with a hammer or mallet.

Here is what the holder looks like inside. We need to clean up any remaining RTV from the last cam seal.

Here is what the engine should look like now. The part in the red circle is what is causing the leaking. We also need to clean the area where the cam holder was. We will also be applying the RTV (Gasket Maker) here.

The stock cam seal compared with the BWR billet cam seal. These o-rings should ensure a good seal. We will need to coat the new cam seal with RTV as well.

The cam seal installed with the RTV applied to the proper areas.

Next, repeat the tear-down steps in reverse order. Follow all of the torque instructions. Clean up any excess RTV with a razor blade and you're done!
